Happy Birthday Queenie!

Ahhhh, a long weekend.  Long weekends, how I love thee.  Three whole days.  50% more weekend!  To continue our tour of places relatively close to Auckland, we are going to Paihia for two days, where we plan to introduce the girls to the historical wonders of Waitangi, Russell, and given the weather forecast, possibly the interior of a motel and the front of a TV screen.

To all those who have been waiting on the edge of their seats, you will be thrilled to know we have a new dishwasher.  It was installed on Monday to everyone’s great delight.  Of course, the installation was not without incident, as the dishwasher installer refused to go under our house to connect the water supply.  His reason?  He only went under houses when there was enough room under there for him to stand up.  Because obviously the majority of houses are apparently BUILT ON STILTS.  How bizarre of our house to actually be built at ground level.  Luckily Andrew anticipated the panic in my eyes at the prospect of a beautiful new dishwasher that was entirely useless, and crawled under the house himself to connect it up.  Phew.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, try to stay warm :-)

Under the knife again

Today I saw my ENT to get the results of a CT scan of my sinuses I had done last month. Naturally I felt a little anxious, as one does, but it was mostly good news. No scary looking lumps or bumps. But my left sinus is completely blocked by a chronic infection, and I’ll be having some more surgery to try and unblock it. Read more of this post

Another rant about the way the media treats women

I posted back in March about the scary kind of beauty that the fashion industry holds up as ideal  Since then I’ve got even more cross with the way our media treats women, specifically the way they look.  Read more of this post

On the horns of a dilemma: Mt Albert by-election

Its by-election time in Mt Albert and I have the very great joy of choosing a candidate to vote for. I generally prevaricate a little before casting my 3 yearly vote in a general election, but this by-election is proving to be quite the dilemma. I really am having difficulty making up my mind. At the crux of the problem is this: the candidate I originally thought I would vote for turns out to be a bumbling idiot. Read more of this post
