The story continues…Part 5

After I posted my writing about having cancer, some of you said it felt as though the last chapter of the story was missing.  And you were right, it was.  Originally, I planned to write about it in 5 parts, but once I finished four, I couldn’t think how to write the next part.  Now that a year and a half has passed since then, I can see the aftermath of cancer treatment more clearly, so I’ve had an attempt at writing about it.  Follow the link to the right: The Aftermath.

Scary beauty

I saw a documentary a few months ago about two model scouts who went looking for fresh young model material in deepest, remotest Russia. Their quest was to find the next big thing, someone new and different who would stand out from the crowd, sign to their agency, and make them a lot of money. They went from city to city, turned up in a venue full to bursting with young girls walking about in their underwear, selected a few, and ultimately took a handful back to America to start their modelling careers. The model scouts made the trip every year, and if a prospect was too young one year to start modelling yet (say, under 16), they kept an eye on them the next year, and so on, until they were ready to start. I see dead fish

Lulu is apparently throwing off the shackles of being born second, behind a girl with the determination and will power of a bulldozer. For three and a half years she has generally bowed to the will of Madeleine, which has meant following along with her games, taking the submissive role, and slavishly copying her every move. They have always had their little spats, and before Lulu’s powers of language took full flight, they involved a lot of screaming on Lulu’s part, and a lot of “who me I’m innocent” pleas on Madeleine’s part. Maybe I should trust the weather forecast

This weekend we had planned to go to Snowplanet, an indoor artificial snow slope north of Auckland.  The weather forecast was for terrible weather, so an indoor activity seemed like the best idea.  However, once ballet was over on Saturday morning, it seemed like a nice day, so we decided to visit the Pacifika festival at Western Springs.  This is a big annual event where lots of island nations showcase their music, food, and various arts and crafts.  Its free to enter, and being not far away from us we thought we’d give it a try. Sydney with children

Two weeks ago the much anticipated (see earlier post..) trip to Sydney finally arrived.  We left Auckland early on Friday morning, and arrived back late on Sunday night.  The girls were incredibly excited, as much about  a plane ride as anything else, and we actually encouraged a bit of  sprinting around the airport before we got on the plane to try and burn off some extra energy.   Read more of this post

I’m baaack!!

I know, its been a while since this wee blog saw any action, but I’ve just got my laptop back from a serious bout of open heart surgery.  I fact, I think it would be fair to say its had a heart and lung transplant, but the prognosis is good.   It packed a major sad a week or so ago, after running incredibly slowly for a few weeks before that, and it spent this week having a new hard drive, new operating system, and all new software installed.   Yes, it was slightly cheaper than buying a new one (actually a lot cheaper really), but it wasn’t the cheapest experience of my life either.  Anyway, plenty to catch up on so I’ll do my best.  More posts to follow.
