We’ve just had a spectaularly sunny Auckland Anniversary weekend, and we decided on a whim to visit the Coramandel. The last minute planning meant we ended up in a Thames motel, and I’ll gloss over Thames (if you’ve got nothing good to say…), except to say that its main virtue is its location – a good launching pad for a trip around the Coramandel peninsula. Shocking, how long its been since I posted. Back then, I had a five year old and a three year old. Now I have a child who appears to be about 15 (plus the three year old). Miss 5, bless her cotton socks, has developed the attitude of a teenager. She thinks that since we generally decide the weekend activities, its time she had some say as well. Or: “You always decide. Its my turn. Its NOT FAIR”. We’ve pointed out that when she is old enough to drive, she can take herself wherever she likes. She is counting down the days til her 16th birthday. She also announced, at the dinner table tonight, that when she’s old enough to drive, she’d like to take Lucia to Australia. When we pointed out that you cannot drive from New Zealand to Australia, she said duh, she knew that, she would drive to the AIRPORT first, and THEN to Australia. Slightly speechless at this point, we agreed that yes, one day she can take Lucia to Australia. No financing costs were discussed.
