Good People

I would just like to start by announcing that I am officially a Good Person.  I know, its a pretty bold statement, but it must be true, because a policeman told me so.  Strangely enough, he told me this after he had pulled me over for speeding – 67 in a 50 zone.  I was zooming along, on what is quite a fast stretch of road, not paying attention, when suddenly I saw a policeman waving me over to the side of the road.

Big sigh.  I was caught out and I didn’t bother to argue, I just apologised and asked how fast I was going.   He told me and ambled off to check my license and write up the ticket.  When he came back he stood back, gave me a measured look, and announced “You’re a good person.  I made the right decision in writing up the ticket at a lower speed.”  He dropped the speed on the ticket to 65, and saved me $40 on the ticket.  I’m not sure I was the good person in that transaction, but I suppose he might have a lower standard than me.

We’re meeting lots of good people in our new home.  The people I work with are very good people, and I feel quite at home already.  Our daughters go to schools with good people, who invite them on play dates and to birthday parties, after only knowing them a week.  Our new nanny is definitely a good person, and the girls adore her already.  And you are all good people, for reading my blog and sending me encouraging emails.  See, the world is going to hell in a handcart, but there are still good people all around.
