Good People

I would just like to start by announcing that I am officially a Good Person.  I know, its a pretty bold statement, but it must be true, because a policeman told me so.  Strangely enough, he told me this after he had pulled me over for speeding – 67 in a 50 zone.  I was zooming along, on what is quite a fast stretch of road, not paying attention, when suddenly I saw a policeman waving me over to the side of the road.

I just bought a tea cosy on Trade Me.  An honest old fashioned, hand knitted, pink and green striped tea cosy.  I know, it makes me half way to Nana, but you know, its frustrating when your second cup of tea is cold.

Welcome to the city

Here we are in a proper big city and I think we are responding very well by having a road rage incident AND reporting a burglary, all in the same week.  Both were embarrassingly minor incidents, but I feel they make us true city residents.

On Tuesday the girls and I made the cross town trek to pick up our dog from the kennel she’d stayed in while we moved into the new house, at the precise time of the day a massive downpour hit the city and everyone decided to leave work early to “beat the traffic”, thereby creating the traffic. 

After an hour, and only at the start of the return journey, a melt down in the back seat was underway.

Time to move on

Today a tulip flowered in my garden, for the first time. I’d forgotten I’d even planted the bulbs, and frankly the winter has been so rubbish I’m surprised it didn’t freeze to death in the ground.  

Its a shame it flowered exactly two days before we leave this house and this city, but I’m glad it flowered at all, because it reminds me that the fruit of our labour doesn’t always appear overnight, and we might eventually reap something we’d sown a long time ago, and perhaps given up on (if you get my mangled metaphors).

There are many good reasons for leaving this house and this city, but the main one is that last year (and only two months after moving into this house) I was diagnosed with cancer.
